David Haigh is a 'Master of Horticulture', a qualification awarded by the Royal Horticultural Society. He spent almost 40 years as a professional horticulturalist, with 30 of those years in horticultural education. David's last post was Head of horticulture at the Newton Rigg campus of The University of Central Lancashire (now The University of Cumbria).

Now semi-retired he divides his time between freelance writing, hosting garden holiday tours and giving lectures on gardening.

David tends two allotments where he grows a wide range of crops. His other great passion is cooking and this often involves using the produce produced on his plots.
